What's your business, and who are your customers?

I work as a naturopathic doctor helping children and adults reclaim their inherent vitality and wellness.

Tell us about yourself

My own health challenges brought me to a naturopath years ago. When seeing her, the proverbial lightbulb went off, and I realized that helping people to heal was my vocation. Now I spend my days doing what I love, that is, working with people on all aspects of their health.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Running a wellness business for over 17 years and pivoting as needed throughout that time. At the start of the pandemic, I had to add virtual care to my offerings quickly. I managed to do that, and it has transformed my business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Learning to take consistent actions, especially when I feel scared or unmotivated. Embracing change keeps business vital. Also, taking regularly-scheduled breaks helps to restore my energy and fuel creativity which then boosts my business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Stay nimble no matter how long you've been in business.
  2. Always remember your why. It will give you motivation in those inevitable moments of despair in business.
  3. Get experts to help you will aspects of your business that you are not great at. I can figure out how to design a new website, eventually, but why don't I hire a designer who loves to do this work?

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Working in the wellness field is deeply gratifying. As I heal myself, I can better accompany people on their wellness journeys. What can be better than that? Consider this career and business path for yourselves!
