Simplify the Complexities of Solo Aging - Carol Marak
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Carol Marak, an author, coach, and speaker based in Dallas, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Plotting a rewarding path is key to living longer, independently, and securely. That path requires good health, affordable housing, social connections, spiritual soundness, a strong support network, a fulfilling purpose, enough money, and tending to legal matters. We deliver services and products to assist the 50+ population to simplify the complexities of solo aging. Once an individual can identify the top risks, they're in a position to better manage and improve the years ahead.
Tell us about yourself
After spending nearly a decade helping my parents with their aging issues, I was given a wake-up call, "Who will do for me all the things I did for my parents?" Taking note of that hard truth, I got on the stick and created a roadmap to address the inevitable challenges of aging solo.
I know what's truly needed when a person has only herself to rely on.
I've presented to and taught hundreds of adults how to think about and take action for acquiring stronger health, connected and supportive lifestyles, inspiring purpose, more engagement, safe and secure finances and legal concerns, and more. Today, I'm the go-to authority for the largest adult population—solo agers.
Outside of my passion for mentoring and supporting solos, I adore the outdoors and am an avid walker and writer. What brings me the most joy is exploring the wide range of possibilities people have to live well into the future!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Writing my book, SOLO AND SMART, and creating the Life Plan Assessment. Both empower individuals to take control of how they live and grow older!!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being a solo entrepreneur is the toughest thing because I don't have instant access to someone to bounce ideas with. That really hinders my creativity.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find a community of like-minded founders who work alone.
- Find a mentor who can take you and your business to the next step.
- Be open to feedback, and don't take criticism personally.
