What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a positive life strategist who helps people discover their true worth by transforming their thoughts, words, and actions, helping them create extraordinary life.
Tell us about yourself
For over 15 years, I have been involved in helping people see the good in this beautiful and messy world. I started by hosting everything from book clubs, movie nights, and give-back events to eventually creating a nonprofit, Positive Focus, and a Global Free Hugs Weekend. It was a natural process for me to step into coaching. So whether it's my volunteer work or my coaching practice, what keeps me going is knowing that when people feel seen and heard, they are less likely to harm themselves or others, and it brings me so much joy and fulfillment when I can help someone build a better life for themselves. I am grateful that I can help people find meaning in their lives and to know they matter.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is in the success of my clients to live a heartfelt, meaningful life, whatever that looks like to them. Whether it's in growing their own business, feeling more comfortable in their skin, or reaching other dreams, we work together. Another big accomplishment is to keep moving forward when my doubts pop up. My why has always been bigger than my fears, which keeps me going.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
If you are used to working in a company environment, it can feel isolating being an entrepreneur. You begin to feel like you have to do it all yourself, which can be overwhelming.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know the "why" behind the business you are creating. Why is it important for you to offer that product or that service? Knowing your "why" will help you continue forward when you feel like giving up - and there will most likely be a time you want to throw in the towel.
- Visualize what your business will look and feel like in a way that would make you feel successful. What does your life/work balance look like? What does your ideal day look and feel like? Do you have people working for you? Are you working from home or in an office setting? How many customers or clients do you have? While that end vision will evolve, having clarity at the start will help you take the steps forward to create the business you yearn to run.
- Be selective about who you share your dream with as you start your business. Share it with those you know will be excited for you and support your vision as you gain more and more confidence in yourself. When we share our vision with someone who cannot see that for us, it often allows doubt to build within our minds.
