Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Carly Meyers, CEO of Girls Building Empires, located in Basingstoke, Hampshire, UK.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a community of 2.2 million ambitious female entrepreneurs. Girls Building Empires is passionate about creating a space for women to thrive in business and have the mindset tools to set big goals and go after them all but also to have the tools and strategy to actually create a business that enables their wildest dreams to come true.
Tell us about yourself
I was a professional dancer performing in prestigious West End Musicals and arenas around the world. At the height of my success, my career was cut short when an injury meant I could no longer dance and was forced to completely start again. I believe this injury is the best thing to have happened to me as it threw me in the direction of entrepreneurship and my true purpose.
Over the last nine years, I have built 2 six-figure businesses and reached the top 1% of leaders in the social marketing industry worldwide and is now the CEO of Girls Building Empires. I've coached hundreds of others to build their own online business and have a relentless passion for helping women reach places in their own personal and business growth that they never even thought possible.
I'm the host of the female entrepreneur podcast 'Made For More'. A motivational speaker and trainer. And the proudest mum to my two kids, Frankie and Margot. Running my businesses around my two kids under the age of 3 I have figured out how to work smart and am obsessed with helping people earn more while working less. You can usually find me eating coco pops and watching Selling Sunset in the bath! (Usually not at the same time)
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is taking over as CEO of Girls Building Empires and creating our Sisterhood community. Leading a whole new generation of women to realise they are powerful beyond measure, and also showing women that you can have a thriving career and be a present mother.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
As a multi-passionate entrepreneur, the hardest thing is probably having so many ideas and so much you want to do but knowing what is the 'right' way for you and learning to trust your own judgement. The work you do doesn't always equally correlate to results, so it can sometimes be hard to stay motivated, and it can be super disheartening when you feel like you're not getting anywhere. But as I always say, 'Hold the Vision, and Trust the process.'
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get comfortable with taking messy action. Don't wait for the perfect time to do things. Just keep moving and trust that if you fail, it will become one of the most valuable lessons you later become so grateful for.
- Get super focused on your goals but don't forget to enjoy the journey at the same time. The joy is in the growth process, not in the destination.
- NEVER stop learning and growing. Be hungry every day to become the best version of YOU.
