What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is baking. I bake southern-influenced pastries. My signature dessert is sweet potato pie. A dessert that is indigenous to slavery.

Tell us about yourself

I started because family and friends insisted my sweet potato pie was a marketable product. Following my passion keeps me motivated.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I believe my biggest accomplishment is the camaraderie I have with my customers. I love connecting, the interaction, and the friendships I have built. I am proud that my business has grown primarily through word of mouth.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is knowing where to obtain needed information.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do what you love doing.
  2. Spend at least 20 minutes daily learning about your business.
  3. Try to exceed the expectations of the customer.
