Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in career development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Braxton Wood, Owner of Career On Command, located in Rexburg, ID, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help high performers speed up their journey to their dream job or escape corporate life to entrepreneurship.

Tell us about yourself

I have a unique background that very much was the founding inspiration behind my company. I chose a path that didn't follow the traditional philosophy of "go to school so you can get a good job." What I did instead was chart a path of my own design where I bet on myself. That was when I learned that I loved marketing and did everything I could to break into that field on my own terms.

In my 12-year marketing career, I have developed a track record that includes serving over 400 companies across 11 countries, supporting over $30 million in annual revenue, and getting to the point where I was earning six figures.

Between my marketing experience and my achievements in landing the positions that I did, I realized that I had discovered a method of career development that was infinitely more effective than the typical approach. In fact, $25k is the average salary increase that my clients experience by learning this method.

So now, as an executive career coach, I find so much fulfillment in helping other high-performers learn the secrets and hacks of job hunting in order to replicate the success that I've had.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'd really have to say it's how much I've done in just the last year:

  1. I've become a blue-check certified career and business expert on https://intro.co, which is that new app that allows people to book 1:1 calls with celebrities and other famous professionals.
  2. My content has received 123 Million views.
  3. My work has been featured across numerous blogs, news sites, etc.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Finding good people to delegate business tasks to in order to prioritize your time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Version one is better than version none. Don't spend any more time than necessary to get the business going. You can become paralyzed in the pursuit of making it just right. Perfection is the enemy of good.
  2. Don't get all the warm and fuzzies thinking you're hot stuff and that this is going to be big. You're not entitled to the business you want. The majority of your friends and family will not support you where it counts. It's a lonely road at first, but it's a very rewarding one. Just know that going into it.
  3. Get a good CRM as soon as possible to automate a lot of your tasks, marketing, and operations. Doing so will free up your time to focus on more revenue-generating activities. I recommend hitmoxie.com.
