What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am Christine Agaibi, the Founder of The Center for Authentic Resilient Empowerment (CARE), Master's and Ph.D. training and 20+ years of experience in resilience science, research, and practice leading to the founding of CARE.

CARE uses resilience and strength science to empower individuals, groups, and businesses to thrive by identifying the tools they need to manage challenges, become empowered, flourish, and thrive. CARE's services include individual or group consultations, educational speaking engagements, and multisession courses tailored to the client's specific needs.

CARE has spread the message of resilience to 7 countries, 10 U.S. States, and 6 Canadian Provinces through over 300 presentations and 15 publications, and is still growing! Tell us about yourself

During my Master's and Ph.D. training in counseling psychology, I became motivated to study resilience science. During this work, I anecdotally observed that some people tremendously adapt and recover despite hardship. This was my personal experience after I suddenly lost my beloved father to natural causes when I was just 13 years old.

There was a significant adjustment period for me and my mother after this. Shortly after my dad's passing, we had to adjust to this massive loss and move to a neighboring state to be closer to family. Despite this tumultuous time, I rallied around my faith and family and grew from this experience.

Since then, serving others by applying the science of resilience has become my passion and has been the most excellent motivator in starting CARE. I hope that through CARE, people can use science to better understand how harnessing their strengths can help them navigate challenges, foster resilience, flourish, and thrive.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The message of resilience is deeply needed in our world today and is thus spreading rapidly! CARE has spread the message of scientific strength to 7 countries, 10 U.S. States, and 6 Canadian Provinces through over 300 presentations, 15 publications, and growing!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with business is knowing the value and quality of the work being done but maintaining the flow of clientele that will utilize and benefit from these services. Getting the message out there regularly is vital.

However, it can be challenging to focus on the audiences that need it for the work. Additionally, sometimes one gets so busy that it is difficult to do everything one wants. Therefore, obtaining a balance between doing what is needed and what one wants to do is critical.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know the areas where there may be a gap in service and start there. How does your business help fill that gap?
  2. Network and communicate with others in your area or whom you think will benefit your business and help it grow.
  3. Find a balance between what needs your business fulfills and can help with today while also finding a way to grow your services toward the future. It is essential to get started and ask questions along the way. This will help you succeed!
