What's your business, and who are your customers?
Personally, I'm known as an Amazon advertising- and conversion rate- expert... which just means I understand how to get visibility, engagement, and purchases of a product on the Amazon sales channel. My flagship company, Canopy Management, is a brand management & advertising agency that uses our own proprietary system to help brands get increased visibility, engagement, and conversion of their products on Amazon through managed services and strategy. This system helped us achieve INC 500 status this past year.
Tell us about yourself
Really, though, I had my own business needs to solve, and nobody had solved them yet, so I innovated to solve my own challenges in eCommerce. As it turns out, I became the "go-to" person with the answers and solutions -- which means I was able to help other business owners grow faster. That still motivates me today -- to help business owners grow faster (or at all) by understanding how to speak to their target customers better. MOST businesses get this wrong and blame other causes as the reason for their pain & struggle.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
3 out of 4 of the companies I've co-founded in the e-commerce space have exceeded $1 million in revenue -- each of which I have a lot of pride in when the milestone is reached. To pinpoint a "trophy" accomplishment... helping brands sell over $2 Billion on Amazon was my 'big number' milestone achievement.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Accepting failures as a turning point in learning how to grow while acknowledging one's own strengths and weaknesses personally. Just because we "can" do a task doesn't mean we are the correct person to do the task.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start with the marketing -- specifically, how will the product or service be differentiated from most competitors.
- If the process isn't documented - it doesn't happen.
- Focus 80% of effort (budgeted time) on the 20% of tasks that produce the highest quality result for the customer.
