Tell us about yourself
I've been an entrepreneur for the last 20 years and currently own and operate two different companies, www.delltech.com and www.empyri.com. I'm a mother of three wonderful boys and love to be active in my community.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment was structuring a technical consulting firm (Dell Tech) with flexibility for working parents, something that wasn't available when I was a young mother and engineer.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest parts of running a business is turning it off. When you work for yourself, and build a company that provides jobs to people you care about, it can be pretty consuming. I tend to look for hobbies that force me to focus - like roller derby and mountain biking.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Slow consistency. You can take small steps every day and still complete a long and difficult journey.
- Jump into networking. Even if you don't think it's for you or your business - it is.
- Even the smallest business would benefit from a business plan - they can be a lot of work, but they are totally worth it!
