Make a Great "Scenterpiece" for Your Home - Candy Candles
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in candle-making but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Frank McFadden, Founder of Candy Candles, located in Hamilton, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are CandyCandles.ca. We use real candy embedded right into the glass, and the fragrance matches the candy. When the wax is used up, you can keep using the glass as your favorite drinkware.
Tell us about yourself
I'm 57 years old, and I've had a passion for candles for as long as I can remember. One day, I was looking around to buy another candle, but they all seemed the same, and there was nothing new and exciting to purchase. So I left the store without buying one. The next day, I was picking up some wine and candy, and then a thought came to my mind. Is there some way to combine wine, candy, and candles? So I went home and made my first prototype. There was no looking back from there.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment? Keep going. It sounds simple enough. But probably one of the hardest things to do.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
If you want to be a successful business owner, you need patience. And lots of it. With every new situation, you need to look at it from all angles. Take your time and make the right decisions.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Keep going. No matter what fate throws your way, find your path and don't stop.
- Be patient. Take the time to look at things from all angles. Mistakes are too costly, not only in monetary value but even more so in your time.
- Enjoy what you're doing. You might be doing it for many years.
