Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Philip Bliss, Founder and CEO of Canada's Podcast, located in Hamilton, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a podcast or micro-channel media group. We interview and record the journeys of Canada's Entrepreneurs from coast-to-coast. Our audience is 50/50 male and female with a strong business ownership focus. Canada's Podcast was created out of a need to build a national brand podcast. Also, to create a network and community for entrepreneurs and business owners, so they have one location to find out and connect with like-minded people across the country. The company has offices in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal, with popular hosts from each city that know and interview the local entrepreneurs. Each city is connected to the national brand making the podcast a truly unique and nationwide representation of all the business activity going on throughout the country. Now you can find out what's going on in each major Canadian city all in one place.
The company is managed and run by experienced entrepreneurs who saw the need to create a national podcast, starting the first and only one in Canada. These entrepreneurs are highly knowledgeable in the Canadian digital marketing arena and have combined their vast networks and skills to bring Canada this unique and progressive thinking and approach to connecting via a national voice.
Whether you're at the gym, going for a walk, driving in your car, waiting for a plane, or listening at home, at Canada's Podcast, you can get inspirational insights into some of the brightest minds and innovations in businesses that Canada has to offer.
Tell us about yourself
I am a digital marketing and media pioneer and a board-level executive/entrepreneur who has been at the forefront of digital media development for the past 30 years. I provide strategic and product marketing leadership to companies and organizations that want to leverage their digital assets. I have built and sold four companies and been a strategic advisor, marketing visionary, product marketer, and director to a number of start-ups and major names in the technology sector. In the last seventeen years, I have consulted with numerous large and small start-up organizations on their business growth strategies. Over the past decades, I have developed new products for higher education and real estate and consulted with many growth technology companies. I have a national and international track record, including many technologies, real estate, educational, non-profit, and American Indian companies, including the Smithsonian Institution, University of Toronto, Brock University, Microsoft, NEC, Samsung, and Cisco Systems.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
See above. But I think finding entrepreneurship/creativity was my vocation, and I have had a super time building, creating, and selling ventures for myself and others.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Knowing when to walk away.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Really 4 things. Stop, Think, Focus and Execute. In other words, stop and define where you want to go and then focus and execute the results you want to achieve.
