Mental Health for Professional Women - Cameisha Brewer
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cameisha Brewer, Owner, and Psychotherapist of Cameisha Brewer Consulting LLC., located in North Little Rock, AR, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is a mental health consulting business. I am a licensed psychotherapist. I help high-achieving professional women manage their negative thoughts and ultimately decrease their anxiety. I also provide business coaching for newly licensed therapists who are ready to start and launch a private practice. My services follow a proven framework and curriculum to help clients get results!
Tell us about yourself
I love helping people transform their lives! I get really excited about seeing my therapy clients and my business coaching clients step into the lifestyle they want to create. I first got started working on my business by doing closet makeovers for clients for extra money. I wanted to help people organize their lives and declutter. One day after a powerful closet makeover, my client started sobbing hysterically because of all of the baggage I helped her remove. I knew then that I needed to complete my journey of becoming a licensed professional counselor. So I took the leap, and I launched my private practice. What motivates me every day is just knowing that I am building a legacy for my children, and I get to do it by helping people shift their thoughts into alignment with their goals.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner initially was leaving my corporate job and transitioning into full-time private practice. My first year was incredibly successful with therapy and speaking engagements. I also wrote and published my first book Thought Life Confessions during that year. Now my biggest accomplishment is being able to facilitate life-changing transformation for my clients by showing them what is possible for them if they are willing to do the work.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is the constant mind battles. When I first started, I was constantly comparing my business, website, social media, etc., to other people. It's really hard to manage your thoughts and emotions while trying to show up as your most authentic self. The business culture encourages everyone to do more and to be more. There's such a delicate balance between purposeful pursuits and addictive goal chasing. I talk more in-depth about this in my book Thought Life Confessions.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start before you're ready. It doesn't have to be perfect. You can constantly refine everything you have created. You can refine better through active movement in your business than continuing to brainstorm in your notebooks forever.
- Don't be afraid to ask questions. Asking questions is often a vulnerable experience. On the other side of an answered question is a pathway for exploration and new levels of creativity.
- Invest in yourself. I highly recommend investing in coaching with a coach who has done exactly what you're trying to do and more. Adopting a student mindset will help you to learn and elevate your mindset constantly.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
If you desire to be a profitable business owner, don't be afraid to build a business that aligns with the lifestyle you're trying to create and not with what social media encourages. You don't need millions of followers and a packed schedule to be successful. Build your business around your life.
