Cookery Classes for All Ages - Cambridge Cookery School
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tine Roche, Founder of Cambridge Cookery School, located in Cambridge, Cambs, UK.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I run an award-winning cookery school founded in 2008, powered by a hugely experienced team of Leiths and Cordon Bleu-trained teaching chefs.
Tell us about yourself
I worked as an independent consultant for global food brands. I traveled globally, and the more I saw and learnt, the more passionate I became about the necessity of real food and cooking from scratch. I am messianic about it, and it is the reason why I set up my business in 2008.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We were the first business in Cambridge to be awarded a zero food waste certificate. We have, over the past 13-14 years, inspired and taught a whole generation of local children and youngsters how to shop, cook and eat in a cost-efficient, healthy and sustainable fashion.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
You are alone with all the big decisions, and that can feel quite frightening as you invest your own money and time, plus take on staff. You can not be risk averse, nor fear long hours and very hard work.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be clear about what your brand is. What does it stand for? Once that is crystal clear in your mind, every single future decision should be easy. You don't deviate; you stick with what you set out to be and do.
- Ask yourself what the impact will be on your private life and if it is acceptable to you and your nearest and dearest.
- Identify your future customers/clients - be realistic.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Believe in yourself. There are far more nay-sayers than there are mentors or supporters. It is hugely satisfying being an entrepreneur and working for yourself.
