What's your business, and who are your customers?
I do professional coaching for people who are going through a life transition. Primarily I work with middle-aged professionals who are seeking change or fulfillment in their careers.
Tell us about yourself
I started coaching after I left a position where I had a less-than-positive experience. I was shocked at the lack of professional development and leadership ability at my company. It left me wanting to change that. I realized that my most fulfilling times throughout my career had been when I was working with high-potential employees, coaching and developing them.
This realization led me to coach. What motivates me each day is the fact that I believe I can offer people something of value that can change their life. I love knowing that people have achieved something they didn’t believe they were capable of or that a person has found their purpose and has the confidence to pursue their dreams.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Each time a person tells me that working with me has changed their life, I feel a sense of accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Marketing yourself and staying up on social media. I’m not a fan of it, and it is a necessary resource to tell people about what I do.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have a realistic business plan, and know that it may need to change as you move forward.
- Find partners you can work with for referrals, bartering, and mentoring.
- Believe in what you are offering, and be the best at it.
