Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Monja Chiara, owner of Cakestar, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a small company of talented artists that love to make amazing cakes. We can customize or make it in 3D to be the star of any party!

Tell us about yourself

I started making cakes in my family's Italian bakery growing up at 12 years old. I've been in the food industry ever since and have grown my custom cake shop for over ten years now.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having a successful business for over ten years with an amazing staff. Participating in Food Network TV competitions and YouTube shows for cake fans!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The stress of having your cakes be perfect for your clients, your staff be happy doing what they do, and your bottom line balanced and keeping it all together to make it all happen.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

A great-tasting, consistent product that delivers the client's needs and amazing customer service is key to growing any business.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Find what you love to do and make money doing it! I love art in all its forms, I love dessert too.... cake art blends the two, and the always evolving art form keeps the growth challenge as well.
