What's your business, and who are your customers?

I specialize in making custom cakes for all occasions as well as other sweets such as cupcakes and cakesicles! My customers are mainly residents of the Delmarva area with tons of repeat customers!

Tell us about yourself

Growing up, I was a huge fan of baking shows on Food Network, specifically anything with Duff Goldman! I would always say, “I wish I could do that!” And one day, I told myself, “I will!” And switched my major from Biochemistry to Baking & Pastry! Making the leap to pursue my passion was terrifying but so worth it and set a great example for my three children to follow their dreams! I truly enjoy making a different cake every day that contributes to making someone’s event special and being able to say, “I made that!”

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Making a name for myself and building clientele from the ground up!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Setting boundaries/policies and sticking to them with the fear that it will deter customers!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find your niche and stick to it! You don’t have to do what everyone else in your industry is doing. Do what YOU love to do!
  2. It’s okay to set boundaries and stick to them!
  3. You can’t make everyone happy all the time, and you’ll run yourself to the ground trying, so focus on your wins!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

There will be so many ups and downs throughout the process acknowledge them, learn from them, and keep pushing through!
