Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverages but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Christine Ibarra, Founder of cakepopbox | Shine Dessert Glitter, located in Santa Clarita, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My name is Christine, and I AM Cakepopbox! I spent many years learning how to perfect my craft. As a permitted home baker, I made beautiful desserts for clients' special occasions and events. For years I was asked if I would ever host a class on my desserts, and for years I said no. The fear of failure paralyzed me. I had every reason not to give it a try. Although I was scared, I decided to host a series of online tutorials before launching my very first course online. My online classes were more successful than I could ever have imagined. I've also launched my very own brand, Shine Dessert Glitter. As a baker and treat maker who loved the glamorous side of desserts, I decided to introduce Shine Dessert Glitter. A true edible glitter with a real SHINE!

Tell us about yourself

Business has always been a passion of mine. For as long as I can remember, I have had businesses. I was always making something I could sell, from cosmetics to jewelry, party decor, and baked goods. I've had more businesses than I can count on my hands, but in 2015 after I graduated with a Master's in Business Administration and Management, I decided to launch Cakepopbox. The rest is history. I would have no idea how wildly successful the business would become.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My very first class was a breakable heart class with over 700 students. I set my eyes on the next trend, hot chocolate bombs, and over 750 students joined. I knew I had to release the most anticipated class, my cake pop course. It was my greatest success yet. I am so incredibly proud to say over 1,000 students joined my very first cake pop class since over 3400 students have found success with me.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest part about being a business owner is not worrying about the fear of failure and going out there and doing what you are passionate about and at the same time being a mom and a wife and finding the balance in between.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you are truly passionate about what you are doing.
  2. Be prepared to be an expert at time management.
  3. Learn to prioritize! Know what you have to get done and when you should stop and take a break.
