Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Samantha Eugenio, founder of By Samantha Dawn, located in Denver, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business mission is to help women find themselves as they transition into the next chapter of their lives by reinventing their style. What I do is a different approach to style makeovers - it's not just clothes and putting outfits together. It gets deep on discovering who you are and who you want to be while figuring out what to wear to represent that. The clients that find me are usually in a transition in their life, but they feel stuck. Externally, they don't know what to wear; they don't feel good in what they're wearing now or are lost on how to put outfits together in the way that they envision Internally - they're working on building their confidence to show up as who they want to be while learning how to embrace who they are now. My clients don't just end up looking good in their clothes - they feel good in them too.

Tell us about yourself

I always used to have a hard time fitting in or feeling like I belonged, and after I became a mom - I had no idea who I was anymore. My old life didn't resonate with me anymore, and what I wore not only didn't fit, but it just didn't feel like "me." After I quit my job and focused on raising my new baby, I spent time figuring myself out and what I wore was a part of that. I didn't want to feel the way I was feeling anymore because I knew there was more to me than being a mom. After I did that, I missed working, but not what I was doing before. I wanted to help women with problems I understood and knew how to solve. And so I created By Samantha Dawn to do just that. I've worked with several women now on their style journey, and yes, they look great in their clothes now, but the REAL transformation is what gets me every time. They're so much happier now with who they are; they love seeing themselves in the mirror, they feel good in their clothes, and their confidence just glows. It motivates me every time.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is that I didn't quit. You don't really understand the emotional roller coaster of being an entrepreneur until you actually experience it. The amount of times I've wanted to give up is insane, but I always found a way to keep going. Don't quit. Get back up, learn from the feedback, and try again.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me personally, I think it's time management. Entrepreneurship really can consume you, but especially for me, it's really important for me to be present - especially with my son. I'm a SAHM who works from home. I had to create a schedule for myself that allowed me to have time for my family, time for work, and time for me to just relax and rest.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a support system that will never question you, doubt you, or let you give up (& dump the ones who do).
  2. Rest. It's essential to your progress. You can't get effective results without rest. Whether that's meditating, journaling, or doing absolutely nothing, just make time to rest and recharge. Those are the times I get my best ideas.
  3. Don't give up, and don't rush yourself. It's not a race. Success won't happen overnight - that's why it's called growing a business. You and your business are like plants. They take time to grow and flourish.
    I have one more!
  4. Don't compare yourself to others. I know it's easier said than done, but you don't know what's happening behind closed doors - so just spend that energy just focusing on you and what you need to do to become better than you were yesterday.
