Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michael Buzinski, President and CMO of Buzzworthy Marketing, LLC., located in Springfield, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Buzzworthy is an integrated marketing company that helps service-based businesses simplify, streamline and maximize ROI for their marketing efforts. Our core client base comprises owner-operated service-centric businesses that have been in business for three or more years and garner a minimum of $750K in annual revenue.

Tell us about yourself

I started my company in 2005 as a media production studio because of my love for music. Over the years, the studio evolved into a multi-million dollar creative agency. Unfortunately, I had grown my company broke, and in 2018, I closed the doors so I could reimagine how I did business. In 2019, I launched what is now known as Buzzworthy Marketing. I am on a mission to eradicate entrepreneurial poverty and help service-based businesses maximize their marketing ROI so they can live a life of financial independence and social impact. My passion for serving service-centric companies comes from the intimate knowledge of what it takes to truly scale a service-based business. Marketing for these kinds of companies comes to me naturally, and I want to impact as many as I possibly can.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have built two multi-million dollar companies and have been dubbed a "visionary marketer" by the American Marketing Association.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is the silo we many times have to work within. The buck starts and stops with the business owner, and all eyes are on us to create the next new thing for our business and solve the next big problem within our company. This pressure can be overwhelming.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Read the book "Profit First" by Mike Michalowicz. I wish this book had existed when I started my first business.
  2. Not to be self-serving, but reading my book, The Rule of 26, will help any new business owner shortcut a lot of the digital marketing traps that lay ahead.
  3. "Mind your business" is a phrase I share with all new business owners. Keep your attention on your own business as much as possible. The more time you spend paying attention to your competitors, the less time and energy you have to focus on yours. Obsessing their every move keeps you a step behind them. Instead, keep constant attention on your business and pour every last ounce of energy into it. In the end, you will build a company that serves your vision and values, which will be a competitive advantage very hard to compete with.
