Scrumptious Floral Cupcake - Buttercream Boutique

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisa Keehn, owner of Buttercream Boutique, located in Edmonton, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a family-run home business that provides custom floral cupcake bouquets made with fresh, premium ingredients.

Tell us about yourself

Our business was an idea that started out as a bud during the first Alberta COVID lockdown! Lisa was employed in the dental field and needed something to keep her busy during the lockdown. The bud bloomed quickly, and Buttercream Boutique was born within a few weeks! Our main motivation is seeing the joy and excitement on our customer’s faces when they arrive for their bouquet - it’s actually quite humbling to hear their stories.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating a business that is not only thriving but has enabled our family to live our fullest life while impacting so many.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Saying “no” to a customer ….. while we do everything in our power to go over and above, in the end, there are only so many hours in a day

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just do it!!
  2. Do your research - figure out your market competitors.
  3. If you haven’t done #1 yet, do it - seriously - live your life doing something you love that makes your spark shine.
