What's your business, and who are your customers?

At BS Ink, we help women feel more confident through the art of permanent makeup and scar camouflage tattooing.

Tell us about yourself

I got started in permanent makeup 5 years ago after being in the beauty industry for 14 years as a hairstylist. After years of hearing what women were going through emotionally, physically, and mentally I wanted to follow my passion for reaching those in need. I found permanent makeup, and it fit. I knew what I could do as an artist would transform how women felt about themselves and help them heal through trauma.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishments as a business owner are simple. What I have been through in my past has allowed me to meet each woman that comes into my studio exactly where they are with no judgment. In addition, I launched my podcast, The Real BS, to help women know that one dark chapter in their lives is not the full story. Lastly, I have been able to give back to non-profit organizations like Out of the Darkness for survivors of sex trafficking.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner for me is not rushing to the finish line without enjoying the journey in the process. It is hard to keep the balance of knowing it takes time to grow a business, raise my daughter as a single mom, and not judge my own work in progress based on someone else's years in the industry.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Put the time in, write down your vision, and keep it in sight when days get hard.
  2. Remember to make your family time a priority, not just the things you can give to them monetarily.
  3. Give yourself some grace. You will fall down and have to get back up a lot before you're exactly where you want to be, and that's ok. Just start!! Stop fearing what you feel you should do. Steve Harvey said, "Fear killed more dreams than failure ever will." I agree 100%.
