Professional and Accurate Translations - Brun Traduction

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Thibaut Brun, Founder of Brun Traduction, located in Saint-Étienne, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a French freelance translator, and I'm specialized in website translation, which means translating front and back pages from English and Spanish to French. Also, I'm specialized in the well-being and business sectors. Most of my customers are from abroad, all over the world, and I communicate with them on the Internet. Mostly, I make new customers online with professional platforms such as LinkedIn or Upwork or by prospecting. I also work with translation agencies.

Tell us about yourself

After obtaining my Master's degree, and because it has been difficult to legitimate my skills with companies and agencies, I decided to work alone and generate experience by myself to integrate easily with a translation agency or a company afterward. However, even if building an entreprise from nothing is hard when you know nothing about that, I really enjoyed creating and learning, and the best part of translating is that you learn something every day with motivation and patience; you always take lessons from what you do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It's simple: my biggest accomplishment was to prove to myself that I could run an entreprise.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

You have to manage and calculate everything you do as every decision generates consequences, and sometimes when you meet failures or if you miss opportunities, the only person to blame is no one but you. Mental and questioning are mandatory to run a business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't be afraid: sometimes, the only gate we meet is our fear; we just have to break it and go ahead.
  2. Celebrate every step you make, even the tiniest.
  3. Be proud of what you've done, and learn from it.
