What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business provides legal services to creatives, entrepreneurs, and business owners. My customers are varied, including hip-hop artists, influencers, dance organizations, not-for-profits, filmmakers, and all sorts of start-ups, to name a few. We believe every business needs to ensure they have good legal relationships and owns their intellectual property.
Tell us about yourself
I do what I love every day, and that motivates me. I love being able to assist people on their journey to owning their stuff. I also love the idea of changing the legal field by creating a diverse and dispersed legal team. And, lastly, I love the idea that I can provide a work environment for my daughter, the up-and-coming esquire in my family. I believe this work is creating legacies in my home and with my clients.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am not sure I have reached the biggest accomplishment. The story is still being written.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is creating strengths in areas that you never had to master as an employee. Some of these things include marketing, payroll, business building plans, etc. It is all doable, but it does take a mindset shift.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
I would tell that person to have confidence in themselves. There will be a lot of frustrating moments, but that does not mean you should quit. It is okay to ask for help - you need a team of trusted advisors. Lastly, be open to new opportunities and surround yourself with like-minded people, even if they are in different industries.
