Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kerry Brind'Amour, Co-Founder of Broad Project Solutions, located in Philadelphia, PA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Broad Project Solutions is a freelance project management and consultancy firm. We provide project management support to companies within the market research and digital marketing space. We take ownership of projects from start to finish, helping as early as the budgeting and SOW stage throughout the final completion of the projects. We keep things on track from budgeting, timeline, task management, resourcing, and quality control standpoint, but more importantly, we free up time in our client's day, so they can focus on what only they can do, like moderation and analysis.
Companies bring us on when they need experienced and high-touch project support within the qualitative and quantitative market research space. For our digital marketing clients, we do account management and project management - keeping budgets and projects on track with content creators, copywriters, creative directors, and marketing campaigns, as well as managing client communication.
Tell us about yourself
I fell in love with market research back in 2014 when I started, and after working for years as a Facility Manager here in Philly, I decided I wanted to move into the project management side of things. I love the behind-the-scenes track that keeps projects running smoothly. I get to flex my analytical thinking and problem-solving muscles on a day-to-day basis. Broad Project Solutions got started because it became apparent in the past few years that there was a need for on-demand project management in our industry.
My business partner, Rebecca Bretz, and I made a choice to tap into that market and start our company back in November of 2021. My day-to-day involves keeping clients happy and allowing them to focus on the part of the job that they are passionate about, which makes me feel like the hero and keeps me motivated!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Rebecca and I are coming up on our one-year anniversary of starting Broad Project Solutions. It's hard to pick what our biggest accomplishment is - even the small milestones are huge when you're a small business. Growing our client base is a key accomplishment. From February to June of 2022, our client base grew 400%, and it's snowballing from there. Our commitment to our business model and to being the best partners we can be is paying off.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
As a small business owner, you are in charge of your own growth. There is an extra level of hustle that we face to make sure we are expanding at a rate that we can support. There's no sales team creating a potential pipeline for us. We work hard on client generation on a daily basis and then continue that hard work with our clients, so they rest assured that they made the right financial decision by bringing us on board.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know your business model! This may take multiple iterations of a business plan, but it's a critical step.
- Find trusted people in your network and rely on their experience and expertise. Ask questions, find a mentor, and join new communities who have gone through it as well.
- Just do it! The hardest part is taking the plunge. Put the nerves into action and go for it.
