Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kathryn Alexander MA, Founder of Bridge To Partnership, located in Spokane, WA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My focus is developing Planetary consciousness in people who care about the planet, are anxious and depressed about her current state, and desperately want to do something about it that's real and impactful.
Tell us about yourself
I've been passionate about values for my entire life. I've also been dissatisfied with classes on ethics, as they seem ineffective and left me with more questions than answers. Jane Jacobs opened my eyes to the fact that values form systems. That fact was transformational for me, and I could now understand why good people can do bad things, even with the best of intentions.
As I worked with the two systems, Jacobs suggested I could see that another system was being born. Earth was eager to share how to work with her. I delved into so many books written by scientists, poets, and indigenous people and discovered the dynamics and principles that they all agreed upon, and these became the core values in Planetary consciousness.
My own experience in applying these values to my own life has created such a sense of connection with Earth and a real joy in LIFE that I wanted to share this experience with others. Peace of mind can come from finally coming home, and the Coming Home Project is the way I'm sharing this experience. I want others to experience what I experienced and achieve a peace of mind and feeling of being loved that comes from deeply connecting with the Earth.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Seeing the change and validation people who have gone through my courses have achieved. I'm not so much focused on numbers as I am on impact.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Wriggling out of the 'power over' way of being that we are so embedded in. It is SO easy to slip into that, with the best of intentions, and we don't even notice we have gone there. As a service business, I seek to work with my clients and not 'for' or 'on' them. This is a difficult shift to maintain, especially if financial needs are a concern. Money is like food, you need it, but when it becomes a focus, a compulsion, then it stops being nourishing and becomes a hurdle to effective success.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have a vision for the impact you want your business to make.
- Design your business and business processes around Earth values.
- Have fun and nurture your employees and your clients.
