What's your business, and who are your customers?
Brick House Media Co. is a media, marketing, strategy, and video production company based in Santa Cruz, CA. Since 2013, we have supported emerging thought leaders, business professionals, tech companies, startups, and more to leverage media for awareness and growth. Our goal is to support, empower, and inspire our clients and their networks via media and marketing assets.
Tell us about yourself
I was a kid who wanted to be a photographer as a child. I knew the power of the visual medium back then and have transformed that desire into a day-to-day reality. My goal has always been to create, empower, and support the people and businesses making an impact in the world via their own companies. I started as a freelance photographer and moved into video production.
After getting my MBA in Sustainable Business and working with various startup companies in the San Francisco Bay Area, I transformed my offerings into a media company.
Each day I create for clients and educate, engage, and inspire professionals with the work and our messages. My job, like our clients', is diverse, and we often build new projects and assets from scratch. I appreciate the creativity of my work and the flexibility and opportunity it provides others.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Making it ten years in 2023 is a massive achievement for any small business owner. To continue supporting clients, innovate, offer competitive services, and pursue other growth areas. I am humbled and grateful to be able to serve others and do this work for as long as possible as we continue to evolve and grow ourselves.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
For me, the most challenging area of being a business owner is feeling like you are doing enough and can pause enough to reflect on it. Often we are heads down working the business and need to look up to see the overall direction we are heading in.
Gaining perspective inside the company is so important. Creating goals and directing them where you want to be is very conscious. I have worked with too many owners who feel overwhelmed by the business they started and forget or ignore the option to make changes.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
For anyone looking to start a new business, please talk to people in related industries about how they started and what their day-to-day is... a reality check.
For running any business, look at what you can delegate, delete, or automate as a growth process.
And for those looking to grow, look at collaborations, partnerships, and other areas for support, as we can often complement others as they grow.
