Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brian Ehrlich, owner of Chiron Healthcare Group, located in Sarasota, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Our business helps independent and small (less than seven docs) practices remain PROFITABLE and INDEPENDENT. In the healthcare environment today, it is incredibly challenging for doctors to keep their own shingle out. Often they believe their only options are selling to large PE firms or selling out to the local hospital. We give them another, a better choice for them, their practice, and their family. By becoming their de-facto COO, we create efficiencies, optimize the revenue stream, and strengthen the culture. We remove the operational burdens and challenges so they can focus on taking care of patients and not have nightmares when they go home about whether they'll survive or not.
Tell us about yourself
After having been in the corporate world and starting and running businesses in other industries, I always believed there was an opportunity to help in the healthcare space. My business partner Jim has been in the space for almost two decades already, helping physicians. So it made sense to partner up and expand our suite of services to encompass all operational roles in healthcare practice. When you get down to it, independent physicians are like every other small business owner and face many of the same challenges. As a small business owner myself, I have an affinity for helping these people succeed, and it is awesome to get to do that!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Haha, can I cheat and use a previous one? Since we're still working on making Chiron take flight, I'd say my biggest accomplishment has been providing a place for employees to build lives and families on. In my last business, what stuck with me the most was when one of the employees told me if it wasn't for the opportunity at that company, he wouldn't have been able to buy his first house. That was a pretty rewarding and humbling moment.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Keep moving forward when the results aren't there yet.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do it for the right reason(s)…your reasons.
- Treat employees like their the biggest asset because they are.
- Ask for help. Someone has been down the path before you; seek their guidance.
