Become a Thought Leader - Brandscribed

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jeff Glauser, founder of Brandscribed, located in Saint Johns, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Most new or transitioning business owners struggle to be seen as credible industry experts. Brandscribed offers a strategy to create and publish captivating content that will distinguish clients as memorable, trusted, and uniquely qualified thought leaders.

Tell us about yourself

I began my career as a journalist and spent an extended amount of time as an adjunct professor and freelance writer before pivoting into sales management, first in home improvement and ultimately with digital marketing startups. I eventually grew disillusioned with encountering very similar experiences at each stop: an inability to consistently deliver for clients, questionable ethics, and a lack of transparency. This inspired me to take the leap on my own and implement what I've learned along the way -- both what to do and what not to do. Looking back, I identified the common throughline of storytelling. Because in each role, if I didn't convey a compelling story that resonated in some way with my audience, I had very little chance of succeeding. That inspired me to help other solopreneurs and business owners clarify what they tell their audience so they can make more meaningful connections that result in more business. My motivation is knowing that my work makes a difference in the lives of other purpose-driven professionals.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I ran my first masterclass in November and received universally favorable reviews! It's so rewarding when you see something click with your students!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Two things that link together are patience and consistency. There are rarely overnight successes, but I didn't realize how long it could take until I got traction. A big part of that, however, was a tendency to change horses midstream without letting the results fully play themselves out first.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do it because it's something you're passionate about, not because you think you'll make a lot of money. Money can be made and lost, but if you don't love what you do, that's much harder to fix.
  2. Find and rely on your tribe. Even if you're a solopreneur, there's technically no such thing as a successful solo business. Whether you outsource for coaching or content or tap into a community of like-minded individuals, an outside perspective is crucial to long-term success.
  3. Plan ahead. Even though you'll be doing your share of "building the plane as it's flying," growing a business is a massive investment of time and money. Make sure that any sacrifices made in those areas can be offset in such a way that won't cause significant future hardship. Realistically, you should have at least a year's worth of resources, so you don't find yourself making rash decisions when the well begins to dry up.
