What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a self-published author. My customers are readers who enjoy a positive-minded tone and inspirational memoir.

Tell us about yourself

A few years ago, my college roommate called with the idea to take my best Facebook posts and publish them in a book. I enjoy reminding others to enjoy life and thank those who played a role in their success.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I was fortunate to win a Goody Business Book Award in the Self-Help Memoir category for my debut book.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The challenge of balancing priorities as you are building your business. It is always a challenge when choosing where to invest time in marketing and promotional opportunities.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take time to read about individuals and companies in your field, especially their failures, because success is only one part of the equation.
  2. Don't be afraid to take big swings when asking for help.
  3. Enjoy the ride.
