Empowering Those Who Serve the Greater Good-Bound for Growth

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kat Anstine, Founder, and CEO of Bound for Growth, located in Lee's Summit, MO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business offers social & emotional intelligence marketing services to nonprofits and not-for-profits so they can bolster their voice and impact in the communities they serve.

Tell us about yourself

I'd spent 18+ years as a Top Tier communication expert with experience in advertising, marketing, and media, and I know the ins and outs of strategic marketing, communication planning, operations, and development by heart.

When I received a difficult diagnosis that required years of surgeries, treatments, and recovery, I used my downtime to reflect and realized that achieving and success isn't everything and that I wanted to use my skills and talents to serve the greater good. That passion is what Bound for Growth was built upon. Now, I gain much more fulfillment by leveraging the same proven strategies I've used to amass growth among my for-profit clients and applying them to help nonprofits do the same.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think that creating my business and a new model from the ground up - attracting like-minded clients, sharing my knowledge as a presenter, and providing free resources to nonprofits - while still dealing with difficult and sometimes debilitating pain is something I'm extremely proud of. However, I couldn't have done any of that without the support of my hero of a husband and avid supporters.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

After leading marketing, development, and advertising teams has its challenges, I now miss the ability to collaborate with brilliant talent. I still have a network of support that I call on when needed, but the majority of what I do comes from my own head. It's challenging, but over my career, I've been told that my experience, knowledge, and development of others is what has not only made me successful to allowed my companies to keep clients happy and attracted new ones.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Strategy is everything, so take the time to research, discover and define your "why," "how," and "what" and your promise.
  2. Take it at your own pace and do it right. Time is your ally, so set a fluid timeline and be compassionate and patient with yourself, and you work through it.
  3. Focus on helping others rather than what you want to get from it. If you are passionate about serving others and sharing your knowledge to help them succeed, your success will come.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Surround yourself with people you trust to be honest. True advocates will lift you up and also call you out when you don't see things clearly or lose your focus. It's easy to be reactionary, especially with so many distractions. Progress isn't aren't linear, so staying glued to your purpose helps you navigate the ups and downs of growth.
