Boss Lady Shoetique is a shoetique that offers quality and affordable fashion looks from head to toe.
Tell us about yourself
I started Boss Lady Shoestique in 2019 because of my passion for fashion. As a child, I dreamed of becoming a fashion model, but I became pregnant at a young age, which made it impossible for me to pursue that dream. However, I never gave up on my aspirations. Instead, I used my knowledge, hunger, and determination to start BossLadyShoetique LLC. My goal was to provide good quality, affordable shoes, and clothing to hard-working and passionate women who want to feel confident and empowered.
In 2021, I lost my job and didn't know how to support my family. But I knew that generational wealth was essential, so I decided to take a leap of faith. In 2022, I became the first black woman to open a shoe store at Northtown mall. However, I quickly realized that my customers wanted more than just shoes; they wanted trendy and unique fashion pieces too. So, I decided to add clothing to my inventory. Attending multiple fashion shows and expos helped me establish connections with different vendors throughout the US. These connections set me apart from other boutiques and enabled me to provide my customers with a wider range of fashion options.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment thus far has been being the first black woman to open a shoe store at Northtown Mall, in a predominately white neighborhood, and making over six figures in less than 7 months.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I believe one of the hardest things about being a business owner is staying organized and consistent. With so many different marketing platforms and with everyday life, it can be hard to remember to post on all networks, follow up on all emails and reply back to customers. Being organized and consistent is key to being successful as an entrepreneur.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
