Shaping Your Body & Giving You Comfort - Booty and The Beast

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Luisa Buitrago, Founder of Booty And The Beast, located in Mansfield, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

It is a beautiful brand of Colombian girdles (Fajas) and shaping postpartum clothing. Both products support the moms after pregnancy, helping them to look beautiful and feel comfortable in this new stage of their life. And the best of all, the moms have a great variety of models, styles, and sizes in an online store.

Tell us about yourself

Something curious is that everything started at the beginning of the pandemic. Being in the middle of something bad, I began to reflect that I had to fulfill my dream of having my fashion and beauty business. At that moment, I knew I couldn't let it go or extend it for longer. By then, I had one year of having my second child. I was in that stage, which moms call postpartum depression, where you don't feel comfortable with your body, where everything you wear feels like it doesn't fit you. Between my "frustration" on how my body looks after having my second baby and my desire to fulfill my dream, one afternoon in the dining room speaking with my husband Victoriano, my confidant, friend, and support, I told him about how I was feeling. I was clear, with no doubts, that I really wanted to start my own business online. But then it raised one big question - What product to offer to real moms like me? My dream has always been to design and create my own products. That's the reason why I studied Industrial Design in my homeland, Colombia. Something I was clear about is that I wanted to start entering the world of E-commerce with a product from my country Colombia. I feel that, in one way or another, I can contribute with my grain of sand to the Colombian economy. Also, to bring to this country (the United States) a product that everyone would like to have, so the moms here could see the quality of the products that are manufactured in Colombia.

What every day motivates me to continue with my business is God and my family, who are my biggest and strongest inspiration, and of course, my clients. There's nothing more motivational than receiving clients' messages of happiness about how they feel when they use our products and how their lives have changed for good.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My greatest achievement has been able to gradually reach so many mothers from different states and to be able to help them to feel beautiful again. Helping all those moms, like me, with their figures and gradually recovering their self-esteem due to the birth of their children is an everyday achievement. It is the confirmation that I am doing what I really want to do.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I can describe it with one word: "challenging." The world of the entrepreneur is like an emotional roller coaster. It is true that you have a few days when everything is running very well, making you feel motivated, but on the other hand, you have days where it is the opposite, and you doubt if you are doing the right thing. It is at that halfway point where the purpose for which you decided to undertake needs to be really strong (I mean being your dreams and goals) and being decisive in making the decision of whether to quit or continue on this path that you started.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. To believe in their dreams, I know it sounds like a cliché, but it is a reality. You have, and you need to believe in whatever makes you happy. Always remember, if God puts that dream in your heart, it is because he knows you can achieve it, and it is your purpose.
  2. Be around people who inspire you to always move forward, people who have already gone through the path that you are going to start because they will advise and guide you.
  3. Keep educating yourself in the field or business you want to start; every day, there is something new to learn.
