What's your business, and who are your customers?
BOOM U offers online courses, workshops, and a guaranteed full-year business incubator for professionals and entrepreneurs who want to start and scale a teaching or coaching business based on their expertise.
Tell us about yourself
I used to be a leadership consultant and got worn out by the long hours and travel time. For years I got business by referrals, but when I first tried promoting my services online, I really struggled. I spent thousands of dollars on a website that did not attract business. I could not figure out how to stand out from the crowd. I always felt worried about money.
I almost gave up when I at my wits end I hired some of the best coaches in North America. That’s how I finally learned the secrets to promoting expertise businesses online. Working 1-1 with top coaches I understood how to automate my sales and services and now I work only about 15 hours/week. That's why I created BOOM U. Too many smart people are struggling because they don’t know the rules of the on-line world. What makes it harder is these rules are changing at an unprecedented pace. What motivates me to do what I do is witnessing our clients discover the essence of who they are as they create needed services for the world.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
There are two. The first is helping my clients create over $100 million in value. The second is figuring out how to offer personalized services at the highest standard only working about 15 hours a week!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is focus. It is really hard to know where to spend one's time for best results. That's a big thing I help my clients with (after we design and position their businesses). We help them focus on the right activities for their stage in business so they can grow and scale faster.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
1) Pick a business idea you can stick with through thick and thin for at least two-three years.
2) Understand the order of operations to building a business and follow that order until you have a predictable income.
3) If you like personal attention or you're worried about giving up, choose small group coaching programs where you get personal attention over courses with thousands of people.
