What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the owner of Bombardment Co + Bombardment Printing. Bombardment CO is a streetwear clothing line that takes art, your mind, and inspiration from the world and creates what I call a "brainf*ck." A brainf*ck is a mental acid trip. It's when the colors in our brain collide and shapes find their way around.

My customer is someone who wants to Bombard the world. The customer loves city nights, road trips, and exploring all the food options with their friends. They are late-night skateboarders, those that love streetwear and sneaker fashion and constantly want to create.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Marc Murphy, and I am an artist from West Philadelphia. I started a clothing line called Bombardment Co at first to stand apart from others simply. Always hated the feeling of going somewhere and someone would have on the same shirt as me. I figured if I created my own clothing, I would never go threw that again. Over time Bombardment has become a form of expression for me. The satisfaction I receive from someone purchasing something that I actually made is one of the things that motivates me to keep doing what I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Staying in business for a decade has to be my biggest accomplishment so far. When I first started the brand, there were so many brands around that are not here today. Constantly thinking of new things to create can be very draining and taxing on the mind. I've learned over time that if you are consistent in what you do, that will determine how far you will actually go.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner for me is not having a guaranteed paycheck. When I worked a regular 9-5, the security of a check was a feeling I didn't realize I had until it was no longer a thing. Going out on your own is one of the hardest things to do in life. Some of us take the brave step and walk towards the future, while others may find it hard to do so.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The first tip I would like to give someone who is starting a business is to be sure this is what you want to do. Just because you hate working for someone does not mean you need to start your own business.

My second tip would be to make sure you do research on whatever it is you are trying to do. There's nothing worst than figuring out problems as they come vs. already being prepared for a problem.

My third and final tip is to have fun with what you're doing. I really live by the motto that if you're doing what you love, you will never work a day in your life! The whole point of starting your own business is to make money and have fun while you're doing it. Never lose sight of that.
