What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a sports performance training facility. We train mainly hockey players from all levels and a few women 40 plus personal training clients.

Tell us about yourself

I started working on my business back in 1980 when I realized there wasn't anyone offering specific training for athletes. My motivation is working with a young hockey player from a young age, then watching him play his first NHL game. Or working with a young lady from age 15, then watching her realize her goal of playing in the rugby 15 world cup.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think being able to help young athletes realize their athletic dreams year in and year out.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I guess the hardest thing was going through the last three years with the covid pandemic. That was a tough one, not knowing if all the hard work you had put into growing your company was going to come crumbling down and not having a place for the young athletes to go.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure that whatever business you embark on, you have a real passion for it.
  2. There will be obstacles, but you must keep pushing through.
  3. You must keep personal feelings away from the business.
