Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mary Sabat, President of BodyDesigns Ltd., located in Milton, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

As a Nutritionist and ACE Certified Personal Trainer, I combine diet and exercise with helping people transform their lives. I am passionate about using real food and lifestyle changes to help people not only lose weight but become well. Our society is full of people suffering from chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, autoimmune disease, and so many other ailments that can all be reversed by using food and lifestyle changes as medicine instead of covering up symptoms with prescription medications. I help people find the root cause of their issue, whether it's weight, health, or both, and turn them around using food and lifestyle changes such as exercise to live well.

Tell us about yourself

I grew up in a family where my Mom was very passionate about nutrition. Falling in love with nutrition, I pursued my degree as a Registered Dietitian and followed that up with my Master's in Nutrition, focusing on exercise. Later in life, I added the ACE Certified trainer certification and began my own business. I love what I do, and I have gratitude every day that I get to help people transform their lives and find wellness again. I am motivated when I hear the amazing feedback on how people feel when they are truly using food as medicine.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've been able to use word of mouth as my main advertising method since the second year I started BodyDesigns. I never thought it would happen so quickly, but there is such a need for this type of service that was just doing a good job keeps the business going.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest part of the business owner for me is dealing with all the technical stuff, such as taxes and website maintenance. I would love to be able to just deal with people, but there are many aspects that are important that take up your time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The top three things I would tell someone starting a business is first; if you are passionate about the product/service, then you can't fail. Someone told me that, and it was definitely my inspiration in the beginning, and I truly believe it. Second, make sure you are set up legally as an LLC, S Corp, etc., so that you are prepared with how to deal with the legal aspects of owning a business, such as taxes, permits, etc. Last I would say embrace the challenges as they come along as growing experiences that will make you and your business stronger in the long run.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Too many people of all ages are not living "well" but rather surviving in a state of "dis-ease." This not only puts a huge burden on the person but also on our entire society with rising health care costs for both adults and children. Most ailments and diseases can be traced back to what we put in our bodies and our lifestyles, and my hope is that more people will wake up and get back to treating their bodies as they were meant to be treated with care and respect. This is especially true as we look at the state of health of our children. I just wish everyone the best of health always.
