Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ayarpi Reganyan, Founder of Bodybar Protein LLC., located in Driftwood, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
BodyBar Protein is a line of women-owned, Paleo protein-based bars - in both vegan and non-vegan options - that delivers a strong lineup of nutrients. BodyBar was developed to support those with digestive diseases, but it is great for everyone because of its minimal ingredients.
Tell us about yourself
I started BodyBar because of my own struggles with inflammatory bowel disease (or ulcerative colitis). After doctors couldn't find a solution to my autoimmune condition, I took my health into my own hands, first going entirely gluten-free and then eliminating processed foods, sugar, and more from my diet. Combined with light exercise and a whole foods diet, I was able to get my health under control, even getting off the medication my doctors had prescribed for my condition. After experiencing firsthand how my health was directly impacted by what I was eating, I vowed to help others do the same. I launched BodyBar to be a between-meal snack solution free of junky ingredients, additives, artificial colors, and natural flavors that everyone - not just those with an autoimmune condition - can feel good about eating.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment was to be able to launch our protein bars. We ran into so many issues with the recipes and the ingredients because of how minimal the ingredients were. I was happy to see us get out of the concept phase, and we are now able to share the bars with the world.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is to be able to manage your time, money, and resources when you are a solopreneur. You want the business to take off, but you need all three things in order to be successful; however, you can't always manage everything all by yourself.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be disciplined.
- Be patient.
- There are no such things as failures; mistakes are just learning opportunities.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I would like to state that we are not your typical line of protein bars; we differ by the type and number of ingredients we use; we also want to strive to bring awareness around digestive disease and how food quality can impact your health.
