Tools to Get the Best From Your Body - Bodability
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Monica Chadha, Owner of Bodability, located in Vaughan, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Bodability offers chiropractic, rehabilitation, and personal training. We serve the Vaughan/Woodbridge community and the virtual community and help those who are looking to get the answers to their health concerns as well as help them move better, breathe better, and feel better.
Tell us about yourself
In 2013, Bodability started as a mobile rehabilitation (kinesiology) and training service and grew into a multidisciplinary rehab clinic and gym. In 2015 I got licensed as a chiropractor and grew my practice to a location within a studio gym. I am a South Asian Canadian who is a part of the LGBTQ community. I am also a teaching team member for Immaculate Dissection, a functional anatomy seminar series.
My goal is to help patients feel empowered in their health, help them become better advocates for themselves in a tough-to-navigate system, and help them get the answers they seek. This is what keeps me showing up every day. I wanted to provide a space that felt safe for every patient, where every patient is treated as an equal and provided an individualized program of care for their concerns, and leaves feeling like they can help themselves, too!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment was realizing that I needed to downsize my business so that I could show up better and more sustainably as a practitioner for my patients. This allowed me to treat more patients and serve the community in a more helpful way.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Having a tough conversation with people in your community, especially when you don't see eye-to-eye, and making tough business decisions based on what is best for the business and for your community.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't forget to include yourself and your needs in your business.
- Your business requires a daily, consistent effort and won't automate for many years. Be ready to be present.
- I think everyone should have the experience of business ownership. It teaches you to think on the spot, handle rejection, celebrate success, pivot quickly, and collaborate with others in an environment where you can decide almost anything you want. It's okay to fail and try again. Actually, it's important that you do!
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I'm grateful that I get to wake up every day and do exactly what I enjoy and love and share it with the world. I believe many can have this same experience if they choose to, and I understand the system may not function this way for many. I hope to be able to provide a space, eventually, where my practice can sustainably grow to support other practitioners who are looking for a space to work where we can create a better system together.
