What's your business, and who are your customers?
At BlueCore Leadership, LLC., we provide professional implementations of EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System), 1-on-1 Coaching for Integrators and Visionaries, and offer powerful Mastermind events for Integrators and Visionaries to deeply explore/share their experiences, challenges, and vulnerabilities of running their businesses.
Our clients include privately held businesses with 10-250 employees that are growing, have an entrepreneurial spirit, are open/honest/respectful/vulnerable, and want to reach their full potential.
Tell us about yourself
I came from a family-owned business with roots beginning in 1860. My great-great-grandfather started 2 bakeries in downtown Washington DC (notable customer: Abraham Lincoln – loved the Molasses Pie!) that morphed into a multimillion-dollar sugar refining and molasses business over several generations. One of the notable products was Grandma’s Molasses which is still on the market today.
I joined the company after completing my undergraduate degree when it had become a publicly traded food ingredient company (Ingredient Technology Company). Though the company was no longer "entrepreneurial," they were aggressively acquiring small/family-owned businesses to grow the company. I was fascinated by the success of these companies and the entrepreneurial spirit that many had.
That was a turning point for me and provided the impetus for me to gain experience and find my calling to help entrepreneurs navigate through the challenges and opportunities of building great organizations with big ideas.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Hands down, it’s the positive impact we have helped create through the implementation of our programs throughout 100 client companies over the past 10 years. To put into perspective, we have worked directly with leadership teams with companies averaging 100+ employees each. This translates to 10,000+ employees. Add to this an average family size of 2.6 (2019 Census).
We believe that our work has directly contributed to the positive impact on over 25,000 people within the last 10 years. This motivates us every day and has us looking forward to the next 10 years!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Letting go of the vine. Many successful businesses started with a good idea that got traction through early dedication and execution. As the business grows, so does the level of complexity – needing more attention beyond the ability of the founder/entrepreneur to handle it effectively.
Hence, the need to delegate and then elevate them to their highest and best contributions. But this requires "letting go of the vine," and frankly, it is one of the most difficult things for successful entrepreneurs to do.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get a clear Vision and make sure you share/articulate it with all who are involved in the business.
- Be willing to identify and attack issues/challenges early and regularly.
- Plan to Delegate/Elevate as soon as possible so that momentum does not wane.
