What's your business, and who are your customers?

Blue Jays Today is an online sports entertainment show which follows the Toronto Blue Jays and Major League Baseball News and Events. And our customers are advertisers and patrons.

Tell us about yourself

During COVID lockdowns in 2020, my roommate Nick Paleolog and I started our YouTube channel due to the sheer lack of sports content due to the pandemic. We're extremely passionate about the Blue Jays and decided this would be our next hobby to complement our current lives. And what motivates me is the end goal of operating our own sports entertainment company with 100% ownership between Nick and me and knowing the potential is unlimited after going full-time as a YouTuber.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'd like to imagine my biggest accomplishment has yet to come. But just being able to stay disciplined with my deliverables (videos, research, graphics, client contact, etc.) while working a separate 9 -5 job.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Handling the highs and lows of revenue & more specifically, viewership and subscriptions for YouTube. It can be easy to become unmotivated during the lows. The hardest part is still finding a reason to put in 100% effort when things are not going well.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Set a goal. How much do you need to earn to provide yourself with a comfortable income?
  2. Create a consistent schedule. Nothing gets done if you don't become your own boss. Hold yourself accountable.
  3. Ask for help. Take your pride aside, and ask questions to others in this industry.
