Transforms the Growth Trajectory - Blue Dots Partners

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Philippe Bouissou, Ph.D., Managing Partner of Blue Dots Partners, located in Palo Alto, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I manage a Silicon Valley-based advisory firm called Blue Dots Partners. We help CEOs address what I think is the most vexing and difficult challenge they all face: what do I do on Monday morning at 8 am to grow my business faster?

Tell us about yourself

I’m a speaker, growth expert, venture capitalist, CEO, and entrepreneur. I have been in Silicon Valley for 32 years. I founded and ran Apple’s eCommerce business and grew its revenue from zero to $350 million under Steve Jobs, and yes, that’s how I lost my hair! I was a General Partner in two Venture Capital firms. I invested $43 million and generated a double-digit IRR (internal rate of return). I served on 23 Boards of Directors (including two today). I wrote a best-seller book titled Aligning the Dots, and I am the host of The Alignment Zone TV series. I am passionate about helping CEOs grow their business and doing it in a way that has never been done before. We apply a universal, data-driven, and prescriptive methodology to grow any business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It has been to see Blue Dots flourish from a profound idea to engaging with many CEOs and helping them achieve their growth potential. I am proud of the quality of the work we deliver as a team and the results we generate.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It’s to stay obsessively focused and accept that the “Market Truth” might not be totally aligned with what you think as a business owner. Be open-minded. Get that “Market Truth” by being authentic and asking the right questions to your prospects and customers. Be an elephant, not a crocodile! Here is what I mean by this: an elephant has a small mouth and big ears, which is the exact opposite of a crocodile, which has a big mouth and small ears.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be willing to accept failure and turn it into a positive learning experience.
  2. Clearly define and understand what needs to be true for your business to succeed.
  3. Be obsessively focused on your product, delighting your customers and the “Why” you are doing what you are doing.
