Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Richard Brooke, CEO of Bliss Business, located in Lanai City, HI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an Ontological Coaching business. We coach entrepreneurs, salespeople, recruiters, and C Suite executives on quantum leaps in their power and productivity.

Tell us about yourself

My own business career was recruiting, building, and motivating a sales team of 30,000 people. I started with one and grew it over 7 years into a multimillion-dollar business by age 28. I love the process of inspiring people to change their stories, change their beliefs, change their actions, and create huge leaps in their achievements.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

In terms of quantifiable achievements, it would be Inc 5000 company two years in a row and being featured on the cover of Success Magazine. Personally, the more meaningful achievements are creating multi-millionaires in the process. Happy, healthy, and successful people

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I believe the hardest thing about being a business owner is focus and self-motivation. There are so many distractions, both opportunities, and fires, to douse that most owners just end up in a state of frantic reactionary mode. It creates burnout. And self-motivation has to come from within our own values and vision, not our daily results. Results are fickle. If we focus myopically on results, we get motivational whiplash. When we keep our vision on the long game and fall in love with our daily process regardless of results, we win every day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Clarity of purpose. What are we selling, and why are we selling it? How are we serving people? How are we going to distinguish ourselves in the market...truly...no BS.
  2. In running the business, it is all about focus, learning to say No, and keeping the main thing the main thing.
  3. And growing a business is all about the team. Hire only A players in key roles. They are "too expensive" and worth it. B and C players just cost you far more than you pay them in mistakes and a toxic culture. Hire the best, reward them richly, and build a culture of quality, trust, fun, and freedom for all. Everyone wants to know how they, too, can get free.
