What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are Black Earth Floral, an upscale gallery serving Calgary and all surrounding areas since 2011.
Tell us about yourself
Following years of working alongside master florists from a young age, my dream was to own a small business in the city I was born and raised. My team and I possess a genuine passion for all things floral, which is reflected through the modern, romantic, and classic styles upon which my brand was built. Our team is strongly committed to quality, attention to detail, and a superior level of customer service. I am motivated by the growing city and my own growing family to continue to do what I do.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I feel my biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been opening my business at 25 years old and maneuvering through any and all economic challenges only to come out strong and still going 11 years later.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is being forever connected. The line between personal and professional barely exists and makes finding a balance between being "on" and being "off" very difficult.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Confidence in yourself, your abilities, and in your product are crucial. Make sure you know what you want your business to be.
- Dedication and strength to your goals. You will have to wear many hats, and you have to be prepared to try them all on.
- Promote yourself; no one will do it better than you.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
We are proud to create each design by hand and make every attempt to work as closely as possible with our clients to deliver a superb finished product. This devotion is validated by a loyal following of gratified clients, and we are equally as grateful for them.
