Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business solutions but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Vadim Katcherovski, Founder & CEO of Birdview PSA, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Birdview PSA is a resource management platform that helps service delivery teams grow faster and increase profit margins. Birdview helps companies plan, schedule, and forecast their resources, projects, and finances. We have customers in over 70 countries across multiple industries. However, our primary focus is professional services organizations.
Tell us about yourself
I've always been passionate about entrepreneurship, and I started my custom software development company soon after I graduated from the university. Birdview PSA was born out of the necessity to manage our software development projects. We were frustrated with the lack of quality and easy-to-use project management software options and decided to build our own product. Now, many years later, seeing how Birdview makes a difference and helps thousands of people across the globe be better at their jobs - is what really motivates me each day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Of course, I'm really proud of the success and growth of our product in the market. Our company has been on Canada's fastest-growing companies list for three years in a row. However, I consider our team and its culture to be my biggest accomplishment. Every day I'm just gobsmacked about how amazing and talented our employees are. I'm very lucky to work with a team like that.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Managing uncertainty is probably one of the hardest things about being a business owner. The business landscape is constantly evolving, and it can be challenging to anticipate and respond to changes in the market, competition, and customer needs. It requires a lot of adaptability, patience, agility, and out-of-the-box thinking to navigate these challenges and ensure the long-term success of the business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My top 3 tips for anyone looking to start, run, and grow a business today are:
- Focus on solving a real problem for your customers - make sure that your product or service addresses a pain point or need that your target audience has. Also, validate your idea first by talking to potential customers before you actually build a product.
- Your team is your biggest asset, so surround yourself with people who are smarter than you and who share your values, vision, and passion for the business. Create a culture that fosters collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Embrace data and feedback - use data and customer feedback to guide your decision-making and product development. Continuously collect and analyze data to understand what's working and what's not, and be open to feedback from your customers and team members. Make radical candor one of your core company values.
