Sensory Play Made Simple - binSpire
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Hanna Hinrichsen, Owner of binSpire, LLC., located in Alburnett, IA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is called binSpire LLC. It's a sensory play business, and I like to say it's "sensory play made simple." My customer base is caregivers of children 3–7 years old in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Des Moines, Iowa, and their surrounding areas.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Hanna, and I've always been passionate about child development and developmentally appropriate practices for educating children. I was a teacher for seven years, and now I have two young kids of my own.
All of my past experiences, as well as my current job as a mom, keep me motivated to offer high-quality open-ended play experiences for children that have the potential to grow their problem-solving skills, fine motor skills, ability to cooperate, scientific reasoning, self-confidence, and more!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I'm pretty proud that I had an idea and have been able to make it a reality. The concepts of what I can offer in my business have grown and evolved. Still, my main goal of introducing meaningful play experiences to children has remained strong in everything I do.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest part for me is all the behind-the-scenes tasks that have to be accomplished, some of which I didn't even know I was supposed to do when I first started! And I'm guessing there are things I've yet to discover that I need to figure out as my business grows. But I'm figuring it out!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
First, many of us are not business experts, but you can figure it out and make it work if you jump in and learn as you go.
Secondly, make sure you're passionate about what you're doing and frequently remind yourself why you're doing what you're doing, or you will get burnt out.
And third, don't be afraid to ask for help (okay, that's advice for me because I'm the worst at asking for help, but I'd advocate for others to do so as needed).
