Create the Music of Your Dreams Today - Billy Dorsey

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Billy Dorsey, CEO of The Bridge Life Music Career Advancement, LLC., located in Houston, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a full-service music production and marketing company that produces original material for artists who are looking to either begin their recording career or take their existing career to the next level.

Tell us about yourself

The Bridge Life was formed in 2011 when we got the opportunity to produce and write for Christian Hip Hop star Lecrae on his Rehab: The Overdose and Gravity albums, and after the Dove, Stellar, and Grammy-winning success of those albums, we expanded our reach to produce for artists of all genres from all over the world who aspire to achieve quantifiable success in the music industry. So many people have dreams to hear their songs on the radio, to perform their original songs in front of a large crowd, and to establish a career as a singer or rapper, but they don't know how or where to begin. Our name, The Bridge Life, means that we are the bridge between where you are now and where you want to be in your career, and what motivates us each day are the artists we get to help to achieve their dreams.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been using our songwriting and music production to partner with The Salvation Army to create a charitable project entitled The Safest Place that raised millions of dollars and has helped to house more than 250 formerly homeless families. The documentary we produced showcasing the creation of this project has been submitted by our media partner for consideration for an Emmy Award. When the art you create changes lives and has that kind of impact, there is no greater feeling.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Finding life/work balance, especially in these uncertain times. Growing a business requires a different level of commitment, and doing so while facing the challenges life throws at you can be more than difficult.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you are committed to what you want to do and have a clear vision for your business.
  2. When you find good people who share your values and are committed to helping you to grow your brand/business, make sure you take care of them and keep them close. They're hard to come by...
  3. Utilize the tools of today, which give you an instant advantage over anyone who may have begun before you but who hold to yesterday's methods of accomplishing tasks. You may be the Netflix to their Blockbuster, the Uber to their taxi cabs, or Amazon to their bookstore model, but you have to be willing to embrace the future fully to realize that success.
