Mosaic Home Services - Bill Knight

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Bill Knight, Co-Founder of Mosaic Home Services, located in Edmonton, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Mosaic Home Services is an Edmonton-based home services parent company. We have seven companies under our umbrella and work to provide premium home services to our valued customers. These customers are people who value time and are looking to free up more of it in their lives to do as they please. We also work with entrepreneurs to build franchisable business models with the goal of becoming Canada's largest home improvement franchise network.

Tell us about yourself

I started the business as a family-owned and operated investment opportunity. We saw a need for entrepreneurs and homeowners to blend together in a home improvement network where we can mentor, provide financial assistance, and essentially offer a 'Business in a Box" opportunity for Canadians to not only build their own companies but also provide opportunities for their own families and friends to become independent business owners. I am motivated by time – making the most of it, cherishing it, and helping others find more in their lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Helping other entrepreneurs. Selling our first franchise was a very proud moment, not so much for me but seeing the franchisee be so proud of their accomplishments. From the first to the last franchisee, it will always be a great accomplishment to help others achieve their goals.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Asking for help. Being the owner of Mosaic, I sometimes think I just need to have all the answers all the time. Sometimes, as owners, we forget it's ok to reach out to our peers for advice.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure it's your passion; you will give up too easily if it's not.
  2. Find a mentor you trust. Learn from their experiences.
  3. Give back to the community that supports you. After all, you can't accomplish anything without them.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

There will always be tough days in business, and sometimes hard decisions have to be made. At the end of the day, entrepreneurs must do what's right for the company, their families, and their community.
