Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Isabelle Fournet, manager of BIJOUX NANOU, located in Montreal, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hello, my name is Isabelle Fournet. I'm in charge of the business of a small jewelry shop called Bijoux Nanou located in Outremont on the beautiful street of West Laurier Avenue in Montreal city. Our customers are neighborhood people from all Montreal and suburbs and from abroad like foreigners during the touristic season.

Tell us about yourself

I'm from France, and when I decided to settle in Montreal, I changed my career as a jeweler because I love culture and have practiced arts since my childhood (such as drawing, painting, and sculpting). It was the momentum! So I graduated from Jewelry School in Montreal in 2011, learning all about the discipline's skills and knowledge. Being passionate about my work is the best thing to wake up in the morning.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

To Manage the pretty Bijoux Nanou jewelry store and work for me as an independent jeweler from my own business Art'Isa Creations. And to develop a constant loyalty link with our customers.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

To make a name for yourself in the world of jewelry, search for news ideas each day, to have real visibility of our services and products.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Always be true to what you think and what you do.
  2. Work with desire, patience, and curiosity.
  3. Be well surrounded and listen to judicious advice from experienced jewelers.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

My goal is to drive my work by ethical manners as I began, make slow jewelry as custom-made jewelry, repair and transform pieces, and promote as I did for three years local artists in Bijoux Nanou. And to Develop the concept of renting local jewels in the way of spare products and reduce consumption.
