Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Keith Kidd, Owner of Big Willy Soap, located in Newmarket, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Big Willy Soap is geared toward Canadian guys who have been overlooked in proper skin care products. So many guys like myself have been using off-the-shelf soaps that dry out the skin and even cause skin problems. Our soaps are hand-made by a small family business using only natural ingredients that are good for the skin. The feedback from Canadian guys (and women) has been phenomenal. They love the manly scents and the way their skin feels after using our products.
Tell us about yourself
Personally, I have weird skin. Some parts are really dry and flaky, and some parts are oily. I could never find a soap that worked for me that didn't leave me itchy. I tried some natural soaps, but they were geared toward women and had very feminine scents. I love our products because they work. They make your skin feel incredible and smell good. I'm motivated daily by customers' positive feedback when they use our products. I also love the creative process involved.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Without a doubt, my biggest success is having the ability to work alongside my family every day while creating products that I love. Taking ideas from a thought to a real thing is very rewarding.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Honestly, the hardest thing is to turn off the process after the day is done. I love it and am always thinking of new ideas. It's not really work. It's fun.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
I would say follow your passion. Passion is the thing that keeps you going when everyone else may try to shut you down. Believe in yourself and keep trying, even in the wake of obstacles that may seem insurmountable.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I want to thank you for the opportunity to share my business with your readers. And I want to thank my customers for their support. The best is yet to come. Thank you!
