Up and Onward - Better Twogether
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michelle Harmon-Malone, Founder of Better Twogether, LLC., located in Baltimore, MD, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm the owner of Better Twogether, LLC, and I do business as Principle Michelle. I use Biblical principles in my coaching to not only feed my clients that truth but also to empower them with tools that have no expiration date. As a veteran educator and middle school Assistant Principal, I've fashioned a business out of my favorite areas of expertise -- teaching and building relationships with families. I primarily work with parents of middle schoolers by teaching them practical skills and strategies to train their kids in the way that they should go.
Tell us about yourself
I often say that some were born with a silver spoon in their mouths. I was born with a microphone in my hand and plenty to say. God spoke to me very clearly and said that I should do business his way. I had been getting speaking gigs from church leaders and elementary schools, and I always did them for free. Finally, one day, a local church said they couldn't accept that much value without payment, so I got an LLC a few weeks later. Now that I'm crystal clear on my message, I'm excited and motivated to help as many families as I can learn what God expects from them and how to walk it out with excellence. Once they know this truth, they can stop toiling over things that don't matter.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
It hasn't happened yet, but it's coming this fall...my book -- The Parenting Playbook: Beginning With the End in Mind.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Carving out the time to prioritize and focus on just those two or three things is the hardest part for me. With a big vision, it's important to know what's meant for you to do, what's God's role, and who to pass the baton.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You must have a vision. The Bible states that without a vision, you'll run wild.
- Get a mentor and/or a business coach. You truly can't do this alone.
- Know specifically who you serve. You can't serve everyone. Your people are out there waiting for you.
